Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 September 2026

Bytesweep is a desktop application that analyzes storage on your own computer. This policy explains what the app and this website do — and mostly don't do — with your data.

The app

Bytesweep runs entirely on your device. Scanning, visualization, duplicate detection, cleanup and snapshots all happen locally. The app does not create accounts, does not sync, and contains no analytics, crash reporters or advertising SDKs.

The only network request: license verification

When you activate a license, and periodically afterwards, Bytesweep contacts the license API of our payment provider, Dodo Payments, to confirm the key is valid. That request contains your license key and a short device name (for example your computer's hostname) so you can recognise activations and deactivate them later. It contains nothing about your files. If the check cannot be made (you are offline), Bytesweep continues to work for a grace period of 14 days.

Optional update checks, if enabled in settings, fetch a small version file from our release host and send no personal data.

The website and purchases

This website is static and sets no tracking cookies. Payments are processed by Dodo Payments, who act as merchant of record. When you buy Bytesweep, Dodo Payments collects the information needed to process the payment (name, email, billing country, payment details) under Dodo Payments' privacy policy. We receive your name, email, country and order details so we can deliver your license and provide support. We do not receive your full card number.

We use your email only to deliver your license, respond to support requests and, rarely, to notify you of important product or security updates. We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing.

Data retention and your rights

Order records are retained as required for tax and accounting purposes. You may request a copy or deletion of the personal data we hold about you by emailing support; deletion may be limited where we are legally required to keep records of a sale.

Children

Bytesweep is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date above and, for material changes, note it on the website.
